Birthday Month, Coney Island and Natalie Babbitt

Here one of our favorite authors, Natalie Babbitt, is setting the scene for her beloved young adult novel Tuck Everlasting: “The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too,... Read The Rest →

Scenes from London

There are so many excellent things about London. The very available, tactile history of the city itself, the volume of incredible galleries and art, the vintage shops, Kate Middleton. However, my absolute favorite part of being in London is the prolific use of pattern (specifically wallpaper!) that exists in nearly every corner of the city. Being half English seems to have its advantages – at least when traveling with my British dad – we skip the line at customs thanks to his passport, I totally get it when somebody says... We’re going crazy here at FV. Crazy with excitement for our summer long Pattern Pop Up! We’ll be open 7 days a week starting on Memorial Day, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. The space will function as a showroom/store for our wares, plus we’ll be doing a few special projects live in the space. We’re also so happy that our new wallpaper designs are officially out in the world. There will be an additional pattern added shortly – plus a brand new colorway of our favorite Flora. Design Week... February & March: WHOA

I think I need to get this tattooed on the inside of my eyelids: UPDATE THE FV BLOG, PAYTON. In lieu of regular updates, I hope you’ve been enjoying our Instagram stream (click here to follow!) which is constantly being updated. February was a hectic month: I spent two weeks as an artist in residence at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. My sticker wallpaper was part of an exhibition called “Secret Stash: Accumulation, Hoarding, and the Love of Stuff” curated by Kirsty Robertson. It was an incredible... Read The Rest →

This Week in Images: Election Time

Brian spent the weekend doing some calligraphy work for Fleur du Mal, a new lingerie company. Exercising my civil right makes me REALLY happy. I love voting. First snow in Brooklyn. We couldn’t stop thinking about the people without homes after hurricane Sandy and hoping they were safe and warm even if they couldn’t be in their own home. There’s an astounding, heartening movement in Brooklyn that’s helping people affected by the storm in various ways- and FV will be joining forces with students to provide another resource for donating... This Week in Images: the storm

This week has been a terrible week for NY, NJ, and CT. FV’s studio was unharmed by the wrath of Sandy, thank whatever gods may be. Our heart goes out to our East Coast friends- and we hope that power, warmth, safety, and normalcy return as soon as possible. Before Sandy officially touched the East Coast, we went home to help batten down the hatches at my family’s home in Connecticut. I also cleaned out my room + prepared it for wallpapering (see the primer on the walls!), discovering this... Read The Rest →
